Construction Will Begin. . .

	Crookston Arena
In 2008, the City of Crookston was allocated $10,000,000 in the
2008 State of Minnesota Capital Investment Bill to help facilitate
the construction of a new ice arena complex. One year later, the
City of Crookston will begin construction on a $17.7 million
civic arena. After evaluating a variety of sites based on visibility,
access to utilities, site development expense and other related
factors, the City Council designated an area of 18 acres just east
     of Crookston High School.
Yet to be named, this 92,475-square-foot arena will include a
main event facility as well as two additional sheets of practice
ice. Whereas the civic arena will host numerous college and
community hockey and skating events, a number of opportunities
exist for alternate uses of the facility as well. In addition to a
year-round indoor walking track, some other events may include
auctions, recreational soccer, Park and Recreation's Club Kids
Program, roller hockey, indoor spring sporting activities, dances
and a multitude of other dry land activities.
The arena will include 1200 bench-style seats with an additional
400 spectator seats around the event arena. Additional limited
seating will be made available around each of the practice
facilities. The facility's ice level will include 16 locker rooms,
numerous coaches' rooms and two dry land training areas.
Concessions will also be available in the new arena.
The arena is expected to be completed in early 2010 and
projected to cost approximately $17.7 million. $10 million will
be funded by the 2008 State of Minnesota Capital Investment
Bill and another $1.7 million will come from the Crookston
     Municipal Land and Building Fund.
Your Chance To Make A Difference
As a result to the gap between the resources currently designated
for the project and the overall project cost, options for reducing
the scope of the building are being evaluated. In addition to
looking for ways to reduce the expense in the facility, fundraising
will be integral to the success of building the full project. It's
your opportunity to make a positive impact on the future of the
     Crookston area!
